Registration for the 2024 BYFH season will close and rostering of the teams will begin.
The first 2 seasons of BYFH is in the books. And we continue to learn what works well and what could be improved upon. We are committed to continually brining a well organized program that will provide your player the best instruction possible. Throughout the season we made notes of things that worked well and things that didn't.
One change coming to our 1/2 Grade division will be bigger fields and a more players. This will help provide more players the opportunity to play and learn throughout the season. In the last year, we noticed that smaller fields and small amount of players did not achieve what we were hoping for, so we have moved it to reflect what the 3/4 and 5/6 divisions currently use. This will also allow for the 1/2 graders to spread out more. This not only allows them to see the field better, but is safer as players swings their FH sticks.
Another big change for the 2024 season, is that BYFH will be EXPANDING again. Adding a Select Team at each the 5/6 and 7/8 Grade levels. The 5/6 Select Team will play full field and 11v11, vs the 7v7 half field the classic town team will be playing. There will be one game a week, likely an evening during the week, based on Beverly and surrounding communities availability.
We will have a 7th/8th Grade Division again this year. Although there is the potential of some 8th grade players needing to play for our BHS Junior Varsity Team, we will still provide the opportunity for the 7th and 8th graders who want to play for BYFH. The end result, more playing time for those that want to play the sport.
Finally, one of the biggest changes and announcements our program has to make is, BYFH has officially joined the Baystate Youth Field Hockey League. Why is this big news? Consistency! Throughout 2022 one struggle we had was navigating various team structures. Not only did this impact the players not understanding what calls would be made, but it made it difficult for coaches to properly field teams. The Baystate Youth Field Hockey League will help make create the standard on a week to week basis.
Who is ready for the second season?
