Cant find the answer to the question you had, please reach us at BeverlyYouthFieldHockey@gmail.com and we will be sure to update this page regularly to include questions we have received.
The Beverly Youth Field Hockey Kindergarten Academy will be $50 per child. All Team Divisions registration fee will be calculated based on cost of uniforms and equipment needed for the teams and posted prior to registration. All registration fees include uniforms. A sibling discount will be applied to both participants fees. For example, if you have a Kindergarten and 3rd grader, you will receive a discount on each. This same logic applies if you have 3 participants. Lastly, scholarships are available and we will work with you based on your financial situation. We do not want any child unable to participate due to financial constraint. These are on a limited basis and please reach out directly to CO Varnes, BYFH Director at beverlyyouthfieldhockey@gmail.com for more information.
All participants are required to supply their own equipment. This includes a field hockey stick, shin guards, mouth guard and goggles. Please note that shin guards are different than soccer shin guards; however, those in the Kindergarten Academy, do not feel obligated to purchase separate if you already have soccer shin guards. FH Goggles are different than Lacrosse Goggles, so please be sure to ensure you are purchasing the correct gear. Lastly, please keep a look out on our Facebook page as we are working to have a "Buy Back" Program to help alleviate the financial burden of purchasing gear for your child that may decide to no longer participate. Stay tuned.
FH is a fall sport and will begin practices in the month of August. Games will be held in September, October and November.
FH is a coed sport from youth through high school, with separate teams based by gender at the collegiate level. If you have concerns about your child fitting in, please reach out, but know BYFH will accept all kids based on the standards that are set within the sport.
Beverly Youth Field Hockey has recently joined the Baystate Youth Field Hockey League and will be establishing teams based on League format. All Classic teams will be divided equally, where as Select teams will be based on skill set.
Yes, players can participate in other activities; however, please keep in mind that our Coaches are volunteers and put a lot of time and effort into the program. We make every effort to be somewhat flexible and respectful of the players' other interests and activities; however, we ask you to please be respectful in return and don't register your child if they are unable to make a significant commitment to the team.
Yes, you may have noticed that many teams/programs around Beverly have various fundraising campaigns during their respective seasons. This especially important when creating a brand new program. More to come here, the money raised through our fundraising efforts will help establish a strong foundation for a successful program that will last.
The Beverly Soccer program generally plays on Saturdays, and just like Beverly, so do many of the neighboring communities. Most, if not all, of our games will be played on Sundays. Although we can not guarantee there will not be any conflict in our schedules, it should be limited.
You will see many independent programs that list their teams based on Age versus Grades. This helps move children based on ability within the program to be more competitive. For instance, if a 2nd Grader were to be an elite player, we would be able to move them up to play within the 3/4 Team, as they would be 'under the age of 10'. It allows for a better flexibility to move players up, while keeping the playing field fair, as kids can not be moved down.
We are looking to keep costs as low as possible; however, there are a number of costs associated with running a program such as this from websites, registration sites, uniforms, insurance, umpire fees, tournaments, and more.
We encourage all kids to give the sport a try; however if you find that your child is no longer excited about playing, please let us know. Unfortunately, we will not be able to issue refunds after uniforms have been ordered as the costs of the players will already be factored in.
We would never want a family financial hardship to keep a child from participating. Please reach out to the Director of BYFH, CO Varnes.
Unfortunately, we can not have players that only play on Select. They must be on a town roster. This is a league wide rule and is established to ensure that programs are not creating super teams amongst different towns and programs. If the High School Junior Varsity Team needs 8th graders to fulfill team rosters, those 8th graders can opt out of Classic teams and play JV and Select. This is the only exception to opting out of the Classic Town roster.
Kids today are signed up for lots of activities, and sometimes they need a day off. Please always listen to what your child needs, while ensuring they are also learning responsibility to their teammates. We will have selected practices that will be established for players to miss without interrupting the team play, we encourage players use these practices as the opportunity to ’reset’.
